Maria began her journey into yoga when she was expecting her first child in 1994. She completed the 3 year training with the Inner Yoga Trust accredited by The British Wheel of Yoga in 2012.
Her experience of the transformative effect of yoga led her to give up her job as a classroom teacher. She has taught yoga in Hampshire to adults and teenagers, as well as in Germany. Trained by Jenny Beeken, herself a former student of B.K.S Iyengar, she teaches movement intuitively, with a strong focus on ‘inner awareness.’
She teaches the classical Hatha yoga ‘asanas’ in an explorative, mindful way, giving time and space to bring life to the spine and undo tension and stress. This gentle approach to Yoga, inspired also by the teaching of Vanda Scaravelli, invites everyone to work at their own pace to discover their own path to freedom in the body.
You can expect to experience ‘asana’, ‘pranayama’ and some aspects of yoga ‘nidra’ and meditation in her classes. She has a particular interest in how yoga can help manage mental health issues. She teaches tailored one-to-one sessions, small groups and classes in the Alton area.
Maria has worked with Dr Gail Davies – Mindfulness Trainer and Yoga Therapist. She is inspired by the teaching of Diane Long, Sophy Hoare and Christine Borg.
